Strategic long-term partnership: Eastbourne & Lewes

Eastbourne & Lewes Council’s partnership with Clear Futures focuses on developing long-term sustainable outcomes for the area. To date, the partnership has centred around in-depth strategic support, including research into decarbonising the social housing stock and supporting the development of their Local Plan. After successfully researching approaches to improve the efficiency of the public estate, the council secured HUG funding which will allow substantial improvements to be made. Another focus is sustainable tourism – refurbishing existing buildings and redeveloping sites to attract visitors, with all the benefits that brings to the area.  

Strategic support for Local Plans

Lewes and Eastbourne Councils jointly commissioned Clear Futures in 2022 to support their plan-making process, which aims to meet the long-term development needs of residents and to deliver much needed new housing (including affordable housing), economic uses, infrastructure and renewable energy, in the right places, while protecting and enhancing sensitive landscapes and biodiversity.

Scoping long-term housing decarbonisation

How Eastbourne and Lewes Councils are working with Clear Futures to address the long-term challenge of decarbonising their social housing stock. tThe decarbonisation research has looked at 40,000 homes and modelled the costs of potential interventions over a ten-year period to optimise programme delivery.

Delivering a sustainable destination restaurant

One of Clear Futures’ early collaborations with Lewes & Eastbourne, the project delivered a more sustainable restaurant building, which attracted visitors and allowed the adjacent 19th century Wish Tower monument to remain the dominant structure.
